A native of Southern India, Persis came to the United States to study design, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alaska at Anchorage. She continued her education at the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland where she achieved a Master of Fine Arts in Environmental Design, a degree that would prove invaluable to her work in Hawai‘i’s unique milieu. She started Ahura Designs in 1984, four years after relocating to Maui. Persis chose the name of her company in tribute to her Zoroastrian heritage. “Ahura Mazda is a Zoroastrian prophet. I chose that name in order that our efforts be guided by a greater good.” Today, Persis is known throughout the state and in many parts of the U.S. Mainland for her professionalism, assiduous work ethic, and impeccable taste.
